Olivia Appeal named main beneficiary of Melbourne Cup Carnival 2009 fundraiser

The Victoria Racing Club has named the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre Appeal as the main beneficiary of their Melbourne Cup Carnival's fundraiser - the Melbourne Cup Community Fund 2009 Pin and Win program.

Proceeds raised from the sale of ‘Pin and Win’ lapel pins will be directed to the club's foundation and donated to nominated charities. The majority of money generated in 2009 Pins will support the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre Appeal, to help create world-class research and treatment facilities at the Austin Hospital with a dedicated Wellness Centre for patient-centred care.
Olivia Newton-John said," I am delighted that Victoria Racing has decided to choose my charity as the beneficiary of the wonderful Melbourne Cup Carnival. The carnival is a great way to celebrate life whilst raising money for a dedicated Cancer and Wellness Centre for Melbourne.

"I know from my own experience that a positive mind and a supportive environment, alongside integrative care and treatment, played a huge role in my healing. It’s not just about treating cancer it’s about healing the whole person.”

Ms Newton-John will perform at the Melbourne Cup on November 4, 2009.
